Softball Recap: Unity Reed Takes a Loss

Unity Reed had lost seven straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 1-6 to make it eight. They came up short against the Eastern View Cyclones, falling 12-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cyclones this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-0 back in March.

As for Eastern View, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 7-1. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their two-run performance the contest before.

For Eastern View's part, Ashlynn Settle made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Settle has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs.

In other batting news, Eastern View let Kierstyn Harris and Sara Hopper run wild. Harris went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Hopper went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and four RBI. Those two hits gave Harris a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ella Souliyadeth, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Unity Reed will challenge Park View at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lions are facing the Patriots at the right time seeing as the Patriots are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Eastern View, they will face off against James Monroe at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
