Football Game Preview: Dover Dragons vs. Spackenkill Spartans + How To Watch

Dover hasn't had much luck against Spackenkill recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Dragons are taking a road trip to square off against the Spartans at 6:00 p.m. Spackenkill took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Dover, who comes in off a win.

Dover's defense heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They breezed past O'Neill to the tune of 32-0. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Dragons just coasted through the last quarter.

Dover's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Conor Drnek, who rushed for 122 yards and three TDs on only 15 carries, and Matt Ogana, who gained 161 total yards and a touchdown. Those three rushing touchdowns gave Drnek a new career-high.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Dover was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 258 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 155 rushing yards in three consecutive matchups.

Another reason for the win was Dover's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. Kayden Brinson was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up four himself.

Meanwhile, Spackenkill ended up a good deal behind Burke Catholic on Saturday and lost 33-14. The Spartans have struggled against Burke Catholic recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Dover's win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 14.6 points on average over those games. As for Spackenkill, their loss dropped their record down to 1-5.

Dover came up short against Spackenkill when the teams last played back in October of 2024, falling 14-6. Can the Dragons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
