Softball Recap: Mesa Verde Mavericks vs. Rio Vista Rams
Mesa Verde extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 6-6 in the process. They lost 17-3 to the Rio Vista Rams. The Mavericks were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Rams apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.
Madison Martin made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. Gabriella Martinez also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
As for Rio Vista, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. Considering they have won seven contests by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
On Rio Vista's side, Aaliyah Kittlings was incredible, getting on base in four of her nine plate appearances with three stolen bases and four runs. That's the most stolen bases Kittlings has posted since back in March. Makyla Mandujano was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Rio Vista beat Mesa Verde by a score of 14-4 on Thursday.
