Baseball Game Preview: Mountain Island Charter Raptors vs. Corvian Community Cardinals

For the second straight game, Mountain Island Charter will face off against Corvian Community. The Raptors will look to defend their home field on Thursday against the Cardinals at 5:00 p.m. Mountain Island Charter's hitters haven't had much luck over their past three matchups, but Thursday's contest will give them a chance to turn things around.

Mountain Island Charter took a 14-run defeat the last time they faced off against Corvian Community, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Raptors had just enough and edged out the Cardinals 2-1 on Wednesday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Raptors as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

For Corvian Community's part, Brennan Frey was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits (and only one walk). Frey was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing three bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Corvian Community is 4-1 when Frey posts two or more stolen bases, but 3-8 otherwise.

Frey wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jackson Gilmore, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one double.

Corvian Community's loss dropped their record down to 7-9. As for Mountain Island Charter, their win bumped their record up to 5-11.
