Recap: Humble Christian Cougars vs. Banff Bears
Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up ten more assists than your opponent, a fact the Humble Christian Cougars proved on Tuesday. They enjoyed a cozy 49-34 victory over Banff. Humble Christian pushed the score to 45-22 by the end of the third, a deficit Banff cut but never quite recovered from.
Humble Christian found their leader in underclassman Xander Stevenson, who almost dropped a double-double on ten rebounds and nine assists. Stevenson is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyron Williams, who scored ten points.
Despite the loss, Banff still got an impressive performance from Vinnie Chu, who scored 14 points along with five assists and three steals. That was a full 41.2% of Banff's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Martin Cook was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with ten rebounds and four blocks.
The win made it two in a row for Humble Christian and bumps their season record up to 14-12. As for Banff, they have not been sharp recently as the team has lost 15 of their last 16 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-17 record this season.
Humble Christian will head out on the road to square off against Cornerstone Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Humble Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Tuesday. As for Banff, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against The Connection School of Houston at 5:30 p.m. Banff is coming into the match with seven straight losses at home, meaning The Connection School of Houston will have to defend against a team hungry for a win.
