Softball Recap: Make It Five in a Row for Hammond

Hammond entered their tilt with Heathwood Hall Episcopal on Friday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Highlanders 10-8. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 7-4 last Tuesday.

Ava Sapp made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and seven unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.4 strikeouts per game. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Ava Miller was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That home run was her first of the season. Barrett Brazell was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Hammond's victory bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Heathwood Hall Episcopal, they dropped their record down to 0-3 with the defeat, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hammond will host Dreher at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. The Blue Devils have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.22 runs per game on average), something the Skyhawks will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Heathwood Hall Episcopal, they will be playing at home against Providence Athletic Club at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
