A lot of love on the high school sports scene for Valentine's Day.

1. Sharing Love (and the ball): One of the way basketball players can show love for their teammates on the court is by being unselfish and looking to pass. Well, in a recent European high school game, one team took it to another level. After getting blown out in a mercy rule contest 64-24 by SHAPE school on Friday, Lakenheath decided it would be best to keep the ball out of its opponents hands, by dribbling around and passing it amongst each other for nearly the entire game. In a game played without a shot clock, Lakenheath lost again to SHAPE 8-2. Although the team came up short, some saw its tactics as good strategy.
"That's a way to win against a team you can't stop," one coach said in a story you can read here.
2. Love From Above (the rim): If you haven't heard of Nimitz High School (Texas) sensation Brittney Griner yet, Valentine's Day would be a great time to emerge from the cave. Griner is the 6-foot-8 Houston star junior who has a fast growing reputation for her ability to throw down dunks with relative ease. Here's a Youtube video from a local news segment with plenty of clips of Griner's rim rattling slams.
3. Love Stroke: Jimmy Feigen loved his freestyle stroke so much that he went and broke a national record with it. Already owner of the national 50 free record, Feigen swam a time of 43.41 recently in San Antonio, breaking Joe Hudepohl's 16 year old record. Feigen is the likely National Swimmer of the Year, and will attend the University of Texas next year.
4. Love-a-Bull: Few schools have as much pride than the Miami-Northwestern (Fla.) Bulls. The city of Miami rejoiced when the Bulls won a 6A state championship, and, according to some polls, a national championship. A parade circled around the school's neighborhood. Fire trucks chauffeured the team around as the players waved and tossed footballs into the adoring crowd of fans. Here is the whole story.
5. Dance, Dance Revolution: The girls at
Waltham High School (Mass.) love to dance. They also love to play hockey. Combining both pastimes has led to a laid back, dance infused lockerroom and a 15-2-1 record on the ice.
The Boston Globe has this heartwarming story.
