Softball Game Preview: Mynderse Academy Blue Devils vs. Newark Reds

The Mynderse Academy Blue Devils will head out to challenge the Newark Reds at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Mynderse Academy's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last four contests.

While Mynderse Academy's victory against Palmyra-Macedon wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Blue Devils had just enough and edged out the Red Raiders 15-14 on Saturday. The win continues a trend for the Blue Devils in their matchups with the Red Raiders: they've now won three in a row.

Mynderse Academy got a massive performance out of Hannah O'Brien, who went 2-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Mercedes Santana, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Mynderse Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .436. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .343 or higher in four consecutive games.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Newark, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They walked away with a 5-2 victory over Midlakes on Thursday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Reds as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.

Mynderse Academy pushed their record up to 6-3 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.3 runs over those games. As for Newark, their victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 2-6.

Mynderse Academy took their win against Newark in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 19-2 score. Do the Blue Devils have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Reds turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
