Baseball Recap: Three Straight Road Victories for Elkhart

After losing to Westwood the last time they met, Elkhart decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Elks came out on top against the Panthers by a score of 7-3 on Thursday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Elks.

Parker Jones spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Coyt Cooper, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4. He has become a key player for Elkhart: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three hits, but 7-11 otherwise. Cole Horton also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Elkhart pushed their record up to 10-11 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Westwood, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-15.

Looking ahead, Elkhart will be playing at home against Mexia at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Westwood, they will head out on the road to face off against Groesbeck at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Goats will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.
