Softball Game Preview: Spring Grove Rockets vs. Middletown Blue Raiders

The Spring Grove Rockets are taking a road trip to challenge the Middletown Blue Raiders at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Spring Grove will be strutting in after a victory while Middletown will be coming in after a loss.

Spring Grove took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They were the clear victor by a 15-5 margin over Fairfield. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Rockets as it put an end to their four-game losing streak dating back to last season.

Skyla Sigmon made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. Sigmon was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two doubles, and one triple.

In other batting news, Spring Grove got a massive performance out of Jozalynn Hartman, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2. Laiken Ilgenfritz was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.

Spring Grove always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .656. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fairfield only posted an OBP of .393.

Meanwhile, Middletown suffered their biggest defeat since March 15, 2024 on Wednesday. They came up short against Shippensburg, falling 20-5.

Hayden Herneisey and Maci Shutt stepped up to the plate in a big way. Herneisey scored two runs while going 2-for-2, while Shutt scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Spring Grove couldn't quite finish off Middletown in their previous meeting back in April of 2022 and fell 4-2. Can Spring Grove avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
