Katahdin is on a five-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Hodgdon is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Cougars will host the Hawks at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Katahdin is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9 runs per game this season.
Katahdin came out on top against Fort Kent on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run fourth inning. The Cougars walked away with a 7-3 victory over the Warriors. The Cougars haven't had any issues with the Warriors recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Josh Martin made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
In other batting news, Connor Edwards was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run. Wyatt Pipes was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Hodgdon posted their closest victory since June 4, 2024 on Wednesday. They skirted past Wisdom 7-5.
The team relied heavily on Daniel Henderson, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles. He is becoming a predictor of Hodgdon's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-3 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Hunter Duttweiler, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
Hodgdon now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Katahdin, their win bumped their record up to 5-0.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Katahdin hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .339. However, it's not like Hodgdon struggles in that department as they've averaged .343. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Katahdin came out on top in a nail-biter against Hodgdon in their previous meeting back in April, sneaking past 8-6. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Hawks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
