Basketball Recap: Zanesville Takes a Loss

Zanesville lost against Newark Catholic back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Zanesville Blue Devils fell 51-39 to the Newark Catholic Green Wave. The Blue Devils have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the defeat, Zanesville saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Ayawna Gladden dropped a double-double on 22 points and 11 boards. Those 22 points set a new season-high mark for Gladden.

Even though they lost, Zanesville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in three consecutive matchups.

Newark Catholic's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Leah Caudill, who went 6 of 8 on her way to 14 points and seven rebounds. Caudill is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophie Chard Peloquin, who posted ten points in addition to eight rebounds and six assists.

Zanesville's loss dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Newark Catholic, they pushed their record up to 4-2 with the victory, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Zanesville wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 53-41 defeat against Licking Heights on the 20th. As for Newark Catholic, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 46-42 loss against Northridge on the 20th.
