Recap: Marcos de Niza Padres vs. St. Mary's Knights

The Marcos de Niza Padres's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their 12th straight loss. They were dealt a 47-9 defeat at the hands of St. Mary. Marcos de Niza has struggled against St. Mary's recently, as their game on Thursday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

Leila Rodriguez was Marcos de Niza's leading scorer, having posted six points. Evelyn Briseno held things down on the boards with eight rebounds. She took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with an assist.

St. Mary's found their leader in underclassman Alondra Reyes, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds. Reyes hasn't dropped below two steals for six straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Gwen Carter, who scored ten points along with four steals.

Marcos de Niza's defeat was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 2-15. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 13.8 points per game. As for St. Mary's, their win bumped their record up to 5-7.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Marcos de Niza will take on Seton Catholic at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Seton Catholic presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Marcos de Niza in Arizona (Seton Catholic is ranked tenth, while Marcos de Niza is ranked 289th). As for St. Mary's, St. Mary's and Arcadia will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 16th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
