Big Sandy comes up short despite Cole Pierpoint's dominant performance

The Big Sandy Red Devils's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They took a 68-54 bruising from Clarksville Christian.

When it comes to explaining why Big Sandy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Cole Pierpoint. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 28 points and 15 rebounds. Pierpoint scored a full 51.9% of Big Sandy's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dalton Barnes, who scored 11 points.

Clarksville Christian's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jesiah Sutton, who scored 16 points. Sutton continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Cyler Middleton was another key contributor, scoring 17 points.

Big Sandy's defeat dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Clarksville Christian, their victory bumped their record up to 10-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Big Sandy won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Livingston Central at 1:30 p.m. on December 29th. Livingston Central knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five matches -- so hopefully Big Sandy likes a good challenge. Clarksville Christian won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Stewart County at 7:30 p.m. on December 29th. Stewart County is out to stop a six-game streak of losses at home.
