Football Recap: Lincoln Moore and Nazir Jones Pace Sussex Central Defense

If Sussex Central was feeling good fresh off their 40-6 takedown of Woodbridge last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Golden Knights fell 44-34 to the Hodgson Vo-Tech Eagles on Saturday. The match was a 14-14 toss-up at halftime, but the Golden Knights couldn't quite close it out.

When it comes to explaining why Sussex Central lost, don't look at Hayden Mahammitt. Despite the final result, he rushed for 74 yards and a pair of scores, and also picked up 50 receiving yards and one touchdown. Mahammitt was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 61 yards.

Even if they lost, Sussex Central's defensive line still kept up the pressure with five sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Lincoln Moore and Nazir Jones, who racked up four sacks between them. Jace Troxler was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making ten total tackles.

Leading Hodgson Vo-Tech to victory were Kevin Browning and Keytwan Sabur. Browning rushed for 85 yards and three TDs, while Sabur gained 210 total yards and a touchdown. The dominant performance also gave Browning a new career-high in passer rating (113.1).

Having lost for the first time this season, Sussex Central fell to 2-1. As for Hodgson Vo-Tech, they now also have a winning record of 2-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sussex Central will challenge Salesianum at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Hodgson Vo-Tech, they will square off against Cape Henlopen at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
