Cholla is 0-4 against Sabino since March of 2015 but things could change on Wednesday. Cholla will take on Sabino at 4:00 p.m. One thing working in Cholla's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last three matchups.
Cholla is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Amphitheater with a sharp 28-10 victory on Tuesday. The Chargers haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Isabella Pratti made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Pratti was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring five runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Maiya Encinas was incredible, going a perfect 5-for-5 with four runs, three doubles, and four RBI. She continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Nallely Contreras was another key player, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one double.
Cholla was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .529. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Sabino had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. They walked away with an 11-7 victory over the Tigers.
Like Cholla, Sabino also got a great game from a two-way player: Avery Nielson. She struck out 11 batters over 5.1 innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Nielson was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alannis Ochoa, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Aguirre, who went 3-for-4 with one double.
Sabino pushed their record up to 7-9 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Cholla, they picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 2-6.
Cholla's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's contest. Cholla has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Sabino, though, as they've been averaging only 0.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Cholla continue to outrun the ball?
Cholla suffered a grim 17-6 defeat to Sabino in their previous meeting back in March of 2020. Can Cholla avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
