Preview: Bovina Mustangs vs. Lockney Longhorns
The Bovina Mustangs will head out on the road to face off against the Lockney Longhorns at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Bovina is hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Last Friday, Bovina was the victim of a rough 40-18 loss at the hands of Sudan. Bovina was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 33-6.
Bovina's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Angel Lara, who gained 140 total yards and two touchdowns, and Daniel Herrera who threw for 182 yards and two touchdowns. Lara was no stranger to the big play, lighting up the secondary with a catch that went for 60 yards.
Meanwhile, after a string of five wins, Lockney's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell to Hale Center 27-21.
Despite the loss, Lockney got a solid performance out of Dyllan Thiebaud, who rushed for 84 yards, and also threw for 151 yards and a touchdown. Another player making a difference was Xavier Jimenez, who rushed for 85 yards and a touchdown.
The losses dropped Bovina to 2-7 and Lockney to 6-2.
Bovina beat Lockney 38-26 in their previous matchup back in November of 2022. The rematch might be a little tougher for Bovina since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
