Recap: Organ Mountain Knights vs. Centennial Hawks
The Organ Mountain Knights had already won 16 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19.6 points), and they went ahead and made it 17 on Friday. They took down Centennial 67-51. Given Organ Mountain's advantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked third, while Centennial is ranked 36th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Organ Mountain to victory were Lenny Washington and Ray Venegas. Washington scored 15 points along with six steals and five rebounds, while Venegas dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Washington has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Ethan Pack, who scored 11 points.
Centennial's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tracen Huntsman, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds. Mikai Schuette was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with five rebounds.
Organ Mountain pushed their record up to 18-1 with that win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.2 points per game. As for Centennial, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-9.
Organ Mountain will be playing at home against Mayfield at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Averaging 62.16 points so far this season, Organ Mountain's high-powered offense has been in full-swing lately, so Mayfield better be ready for a challenge. As for Centennial, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Las Cruces at 7:00 p.m. Centennial is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 54.1 points per game this season.
