Baseball Recap: Parma Panthers vs. Homedale Trojans
Parma was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They took a 7-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Homedale Trojans. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Parma of the 9-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture on April 10th.
Braxton Heffelfinger put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. Heffelfinger was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Heffelfinger wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Samuel Hultman, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Hultman has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive pitching appearances.
Even though they lost, Parma didn't let batters stay on the plate for long and finished the game with eight strikeouts. This was only their 12th loss (out of 16 games) when they post five or more strikeouts.
On Homedale's side, Payton Fine spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on four hits and racked up ten Ks.
At the plate, Dillon Fine was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Lukas Hall was another key contributor, going 4-for-4 with two RBI and a double.
Parma's defeat dropped their record down to 4-17. As for Homedale, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 19-4.
