Volleyball Recap: Roger Bacon Comes Up Short

If Roger Bacon was riding high fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Cincinnati Country Day on Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Spartans lost 3-0 to the St. Ursula Academy Bulldogs on Saturday. The defeat continues a trend for the Spartans in their meetings with the Bulldogs: they've now lost three in a row.

Roger Bacon took the loss but they managed to make steady progress, increasing their score in every set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-10, 25-14, 25-20.

Brenna Huber paced Roger Bacon's offense, picking up seven kills. Huber got some help from Emma McGraw and her 13 assists. Addison Schwartz controlled things from the service line, finishing with two aces.

St. Ursula Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Belle Haas led the charge by getting 27 digs and four assists. Those 27 digs gave Haas a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Penelope Bolinger, who had six digs and three aces.

Roger Bacon's loss dropped their record down to 6-8. As for St. Ursula Academy, their win bumped their record up to 9-6.

Roger Bacon has already played their next match, a 3-0 defeat against Bishop Fenwick on the 22nd. As for St. Ursula Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-0 victory against Mercy McAuley on the 23rd.
