East Grand Rapids waltzed into their match on Wednesday with nine straight wins... but they left with ten. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Forest Hills Northern Huskies a 3-0 shutout. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 20, 2022, but that streak is no more.

Will Hoefer made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That double marked the first that he has hit this season.

In other pitching news, Callan Royce tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out six over six innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Josh McCune was excellent, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

East Grand Rapids' victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-1-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average over those games. As for Forest Hills Northern, the defeat snapped their winning streak at seven games and leaves them with a 9-9 record.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: East Grand Rapids beat the Huskies by a score of 4-0 later that day.
