Softball Recap: Wilton Victorious

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Ridgefield, Wilton was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Westhill Vikings 8-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Warriors have posted against the Vikings since April 9, 2018.

Ruby Prior tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up three earned runs off only two hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (five).

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Emma Van Heyst, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Katie McKay, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double.

Wilton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They are 3-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Wilton's victory bumped their record up to 5-9. As for Westhill, they are on a 13-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-11.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Wilton will square off against rival St. Joseph at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Westhill is set to face off against their familiar foe New Canaan at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
