Soccer Game Preview: Great Oak vs. Temecula Valley

The Great Oak Wolfpack will square off against the Temecula Valley Golden Bears at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Temecula Valley better have a healthy lead at halftime, because if last week is any indication, that's when Great Oak really get things going. Great Oak's defense stepped up to hand Chaparral a 5-0 shutout on Wednesday. The result kept the Wolfpack happy, as they haven't lost a game since December 13, 2024.

They hit Chaparral with a four-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Alejandro Colina (2), Jeremiah Yolemi, Nico Powell, and Joshua Yolemi.

Meanwhile, Temecula Valley's game on Wednesday was all tied up 1-1 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. Everything went their way against Murrieta Mesa as Temecula Valley made off with a 4-1 win. Given the Golden Bears' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 407th, while the Rams are ranked 859th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Great Oak is also on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-1-3 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 29 goals over those eight games. As for Temecula Valley, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-6.

Great Oak was able to grind out a solid win over Temecula Valley in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, winning 4-2. Will Great Oak repeat their success, or does Temecula Valley have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
