Softball Recap: Newburgh Free Academy Goldbacks vs. Spackenkill Spartans
Newburgh Free Academy had to kick off their season on the road on Thursday, but they showed no ill effects. They never let the Spackenkill Spartans get on the board and left with a 14-0 victory. That's more bragging rights for the Goldbacks, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.
Samantha Williams made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over six innings pitched. Williams was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Liana Shaw, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. Parker Mullarkey was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
