Basketball Recap: Marshall's Luck Changes for the Better on Friday

Marshall hadn't done well against Oak Grove recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Marshall Owls came out on top against the Oak Grove Panthers by a score of 53-44. The Owls have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Panthers, too.

Leading Marshall to victory were Brody Kueker and Deacon Arends. Kueker went 8 for 13 en route to 21 points and eight rebounds, while Arends went 5 of 9 on his way to 15 points in addition to seven boards and three steals. That's the most points Kueker has posted since back in December of 2023. Another player making a difference was Angel Aguirre, who posted five points and eight rebounds.

Defeat or not, Oak Grove got some senior leadership from Aaron Reeves and Keenan Brady. Reeves went 6 for 11 on his way to 17 points and five boards, while Brady dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds. That was a full 38.6% of Oak Grove's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.

The victory snapped Marshall's losing streak at five games and leaves them with a 5-7 record. As for Oak Grove, their loss dropped their record down to 6-6.

Marshall wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 72-70 win against Odessa on the 20th. As for Oak Grove, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 67-27 victory against Wellington-Napoleon on the 21st.
