League recap: Fairfield Prep enters state Top 25 with win

Fairfield Prep was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after defeating Cheshire. The Jesuits came in at 5 in the state poll after placing at number 26 last week.

Fairfield Prep took down the Rams 39-6 last week, the largest margin of any game. Strecker Backe threw for 49 yards and one touchdown and ran for 40 yards in the win.

Shelton's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Mark Piccirillo threw for 205 and two touchdowns and Eddie Kochiss had 105 yards receiving. On the ground Piccirillo chipped in 94 yards. William Karcher helped Shelton's passing attack out by catching three balls for 47 yards.

On the ground, Xavier's DeAngelo Berry has rushed for 763 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Kris Luster. The Xavier star has 23 catches for 375 yards.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Falcons take on Amity Regional. Xavier is currently in first, while the Spartans are in fourth.

Tom Shea's team made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 1,010 from 3,724. The improvement came about via a 39-6 victory over Cheshire last week.
