Basketball Recap: Stevens Comes Up Short

Stevens lost against Sotomayor back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Stevens Falcons took a 48-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Sotomayor WILDCATS. The match marked the Falcons' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Despite the loss, Stevens still got an impressive performance from Zane Schunior, who went 6 of 13 en route to 15 points and three steals. That's the most steals Schunior has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Zayth Guerrero, who posted seven points and six boards.

Sotomayor's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jasiah Saunders, who went 9 for 19 on his way to 22 points and seven rebounds. The contest was Saunders' fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Justin Mcbryde, who went 5 of 10 en route to 12 points along with eight boards and five assists.

Stevens now has a losing record at 13-14. As for Sotomayor, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 16-12.

It'll be a Battle of the Birds when the Stevens Falcons face off against the Harlan Hawks at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Stevens is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.9 points per game this season. As for Sotomayor, they are taking a road trip to square off against Taft at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Sotomayor also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 56.8 points per game.
