Baseball Recap: Lakewood Ranch Takes a Loss

Lakewood Ranch lost against Sarasota last Thursday, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Mustangs fell just short of the Sailors by a score of 2-1. That's two games in a row now that the Mustangs have lost by just one run.

Nathan Johnson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits and racked up ten Ks. Those ten strikeouts set a new season-high mark for him.

On the hitting side, Lakewood Ranch saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carter Sprague, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.

Lakewood Ranch is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-12. The slump could be explained by some tough opposition over that stretch, namely Sarasota, Parrish Community, and Sarasota. As for the Sailors, the victory (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 15-3-1.

Lakewood Ranch didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 10-4 loss against Parrish Community on the 28th. As for Sarasota, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, a 13-4 win against Bartow on the 28th.
