High school girls basketball: At nearly 44 points per game, Nicole Melious of New York is the nation's leading scorer

Pennsylvania sophomore Senaya Parker among four players nationally averaging over 35 points per game.

According to statistics submitted to MaxPreps, Nicole Melious of Wagner (Staten Island, N.Y.) is high school girls basketball's leading scorer nationally. Averaging 43.7 points per game, the 5-foot-8 senior wing has scored at least 40 points in all but two outings – including 60 on Dec. 30.

Sophomore Senaya Parker of Samuel Fels (Philadelphia) checks in at No. 2 on the list with an average of 40.5 points per game. Three times this season Parker has scored 50 or more points. On Jan. 11, Parker scored 59 points on just 25 shot attempts.

Regarded as one of the top senior prospects in the country, Arkansas commit Taliah Scott of St. Johns Country Day (Orange Park, Fla.) is No. 3 at 37.4 points per night. She put up a season-high 53 in a 64-46 win over The First Academy back in December.

Freshman Elliott Schwartz of John Adams Academy (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) also deserves mention, averaging 31.5 points per game.
