Liberty and Buckhannon-Upshur are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2016, but likely not for long. The Mountaineers will take on the Buccaneers at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Liberty fell victim to Doddridge County and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They lost 13-0 to the Bulldogs. The Mountaineers have struggled against the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.

Meanwhile, Buckhannon-Upshur got the win against Robert C. Byrd on Tuesday by a conclusive 10-2. The result was nothing new for the Buccaneers, who have now won four contests by eight runs or more so far this season.

The team relied heavily on Reagan Mason, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2. Madi Knabenshue also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Buckhannon-Upshur hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Robert C. Byrd struck out 12 times.

Buckhannon-Upshur has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Liberty, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Liberty suffered a grim 18-4 defeat to Buckhannon-Upshur when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Mountaineers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
