Baseball Recap: Tuesday's Defeat Ends Bethany Community's Winning Streak

After flying high against Millennium last Friday, Bethany Community came back down to earth. The Bethany Community Wolves fell just short of the Leadership Academy Falcons by a score of 8-6 on Tuesday. The match marked the Wolves' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Gavin Washburn put in work while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple was his first of the season.

Washburn wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Tripp White, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.

Bethany Community moved to 4-2 with that loss, which also ended their four-game winning streak. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Leadership Academy, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 3-1.

While Bethany Community had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
