Not much got past Owen Smith, who gave up just four hits and racked up 11 Ks to keep Oxford Academy off the board. Smith also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Western Christian is 4-2 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 7-9 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Western Christian's victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was James Mack, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Norwalk won against Firebaugh two weeks ago with eight runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. The Lancers put the hurt on West Valley with a sharp 8-1 win. Considering the Lancers have won 11 matches by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Daniel Albidrez was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hector Alvarado, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.
Norwalk was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West Valley only posted a batting average of .154.
Norwalk pushed their record up to 16-10 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Western Christian, the victory got them back to even at 11-11.
