Football Recap: Michael Davis Jr's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Leesville over Benton + How To Watch

Leesville was the 44-0 winner over Benton when they last played one another back in October of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Wampus Cats fell 42-35 to the Tigers on Thursday. That's two games in a row now that the Wampus Cats have lost by exactly seven points.

Leesville's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Michael Davis Jr, who picked up 184 receiving yards and three TDs. With that strong performance, Davis Jr is now averaging an impressive 112 receiving yards per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Trel Broom, who threw for 407 yards and four touchdowns.

Benton got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Greg Chambers out in front who rushed for 130 yards and four scores, and also picked up 65 receiving yards. Another player making a difference was Malachi Zeigler, who threw for 323 yards and a pair of TDs.

This is the second loss in a row for Leesville and nudges their season record down to 1-4. As for Benton, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.

Looking ahead, Leesville will host Iowa at 7:00 p.m. on the 10th. The Wampus Cats will need to watch out since the Yellowjackets have now posted at least 31 points in their last three contests. As for Benton, they will venture away from home to face off against Haughton at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Tigers will be up against the Buccaneers' rather soft defense (which has allowed 44.75 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
