Recap: Cuero Gobblers vs. Navarro Panthers
After a string of eight wins, the Cuero Gobblers's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell just short of Navarro by a score of 38-36. While losing is never fun, Cuero can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 324th, while Navarro is ranked 90th).
When it comes to explaining why Cuero lost, one person who can't be blamed is Arissa Carbonara. Despite the final result, she scored 16 points along with 6 rebounds. Carbonara scored a full 44.4% of Cuero's points, the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Lainee Ballin, who scored 6 points.
Tegan Harborth was her usual excellent self, scoring 14 points along with 9 rebounds for Navarro. Sienna Kramer was another key contributor, scoring 5 points.
Cuero's defeat dropped their record down to 12-3. As for Navarro, the win (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 14-2.
Cuero's road trip will continue as they head out to face Poth at 6:15 p.m. on December 5th. Poth is on a three-game streak of home wins, Cuero a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. Navarro will take on Medina Valley at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
