After losing to Smith Center the last time they met, Thomas More Prep-Marian decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Thomas More Prep-Marian Monarchs escaped with a win on Friday against the Smith Center Redmen by the margin of a single free throw, 47-46. The win was nothing new for the Monarchs as they're now sitting on three straight.

Smith Center's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kayln Ifland, who went 6 for 11 on her way to 15 points along with six steals and five boards. Ifland has become a key player for Smith Center: the team is 2-1 when she posts at least five steals, but 3-9 otherwise. Leah Mckelvey was another key player, going 6 of 13 to rack up 13 points and eight rebounds.

Thomas More Prep-Marian's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.3 points over those games. As for Smith Center, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-10.

Looking ahead, Thomas More Prep-Marian is taking a road trip to square off against Russell at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Russell will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Thomas More Prep-Marian surely won't give up without a fight. As for Smith Center, they have already played their next match, a 57-32 defeat against Superior on the 10th.
