Football Recap: Atticus Finley Leads Fishers' Defense on Friday

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Brownsburg, Fishers was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They strolled past the Avon Orioles with points to spare, taking the game 29-15. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Orioles recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Fishers had a senior duo take command as Ryan Thembulembu gained 183 total yards and a touchdown and Gage Sturgill threw for 255 yards and three TDs. With that strong performance, Thembulembu is now averaging an impressive 102.2 rushing yards per game. A healthy portion of Sturgill's aerial production (94 yards to be exact) went to Osias Sims, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

Fishers didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Atticus Finley, Kayden Myers, and Jaxson Andrews picked up one apiece. Andrews has been hot, having also posted at least one defended passe the last five times he's played. Fishers got some further help from Emmanuel Cowherd: he made ten total tackles (3.0 for loss).

When it comes to explaining why Avon lost, don't look at Andre Warfield. Despite the final result, he rushed for 127 yards and one score. Warfield showed off some serious burst, cutting through the defense on one rush that went for 57 yards.

Fishers' win bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Avon, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-3 record this season.

Fishers has already played their next matchup, a 36-35 victory against Franklin Central on the 3rd. As for Avon, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 38-21 defeat against Westfield on the 3rd.
