The Madison-Grant Argylls will face off against the Fort Wayne Northrop Bruins at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. Madison-Grant is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.6 runs per game this season.
Yorktown hit Madison-Grant with a five-run fourth inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Argylls fell 12-7 to the Tigers. The loss continues a trend for the Argylls in their meetings with the Tigers: they've now lost four in a row.
Johnna Hiatt led a balanced group of hitters, going 2-for-3 with one home run. Mae Ricks was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Eastside typically has all the answers at home, but on Friday Fort Wayne Northrop proved too difficult a challenge. They came out on top against the Blazers by a score of 8-3. The win was nothing new for the Bruins as they're now sitting on three straight.
Kendall Huth was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Huth was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs.
In other batting news, Karlie Bruce was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Brilee Day, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Fort Wayne Northrop was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. They are 8-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Fort Wayne Northrop's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-10. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Madison-Grant, their defeat dropped their record down to 17-8.
Saturday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Madison-Grant hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .400. However, it's not like Fort Wayne Northrop struggles in that department as they've averaged .356. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
