Softball Game Preview: Peebles Indians vs. Southeastern Panthers

The Peebles Indians will venture away from home to take on the Southeastern Panthers at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Peebles is coming into the contest on a five-game losing streak.

Lynchburg-Clay hit Peebles with a four-run seventh inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Indians came up short against the Mustangs, falling 12-2.

Southeastern came out on top against Paint Valley on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run sixth inning. The Panthers walked away with a 6-2 win over the Bearcats. Six seems to be a good number for the Panthers as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Kylie Williams was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out 17 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs. Those two runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Southeastern let Mallorie Elam and Elle Stewart run wild. Elam went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double, while Stewart went 1-for-2 with three RBI and one run. Those two RBI gave Elam a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lydia Williams, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

Southeastern hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Paint Valley struck out 17 times.

The win made it two in a row for Southeastern and bumps their season record up to 6-10. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 6 runs in those games. As for Peebles, their loss dropped their record down to 4-10.

Peebles came up short against Southeastern when the teams last played back in April of 2023, falling 9-6. Can the Indians avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
