Basketball Recap: Baptist Hill Bobcats vs. St. John's Islanders

The Baptist Hill Bobcats lost against the St. John's Islanders back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. Baptist Hill fell 44-36 to the Islanders. Baptist Hill has struggled against the Islanders recently, as their contest on Tuesday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the loss, Baptist Hill had strong showings from Shaniah Townsend, who scored 17 points along with five rebounds and four steals, and Malaya Hill, who scored ten points along with six steals. Hill has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 14 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Emerald Alford, who scored two points along with eight rebounds and two steals.

St. John's found their leader in underclassman Daeshia Buford, who scored 20 points along with seven steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Buford has scored at least a third of St. John's points. Kaniya Smith was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with seven assists and four steals.

Baptist Hill has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season. As for St. John's, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-9.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Baptist Hill will square off against the Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
