Basketball Recap: Make It Five in a Row for Surry Central

Surry Central came tearing into Friday's match with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 66-59 victory over the Elkin Buckin' Elks. That's more bragging rights for the Golden Eagles, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Leading Surry Central to victory were Tripp Mcmillen and Jax Whitaker. Mcmillen dropped a double-double on 24 points and 11 boards, while Whitaker went 5 for 7 en route to 20 points. With that strong performance, Mcmillen is now averaging an impressive 8.1 rebounds per game. Mason Jewell was another key player, putting up six points.

Surry Central's win was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-3. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy: their three-point shooting accuracy was 0% in those games and 32.7% outside of them. As for Elkin, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-11.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. It'll be a Battle of the Birds when the Surry Central Golden Eagles challenge the Forbush Falcons at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Surry Central knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 18 games -- so hopefully Forbush likes a good challenge. Elkin has already played their next contest (against Starmount), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
