Baseball Game Preview: Newberry Panthers vs. Episcopal School of Jacksonville Eagles

The Newberry Panthers will head out on the road to take on the Episcopal School of Jacksonville Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Newberry proved they can win big on Monday (they won by seven) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They won by a run and slipped past Oakleaf 8-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Panthers have posted since March 3rd.

Tavis Honeycutt made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brycen Ochs, who scored a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Desmond Taylor was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.

Meanwhile, Episcopal School of Jacksonville got themselves on the board against Wolfson on Friday, but Wolfson never followed suit. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Wolfpack 2-0.

Clem Nelson looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in February.

On the hitting side, Episcopal School of Jacksonville saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dominic DeLoreto, who went 1-for-3 with one triple.

Episcopal School of Jacksonville hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wolfson struck out 12 times.

Newberry's record is now 10-6. As for Episcopal School of Jacksonville, their record now sits at 15-5.
