Soccer Game Preview: Newark vs. Hodgson Vo-Tech

The Newark Yellowjackets will head out to square off against the Hodgson Vo-Tech Eagles at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. Newark has given up an average of 4.2 goals per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Newark is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to five goals back in April, they were much more limited against Concord on Monday. They came up short against the Raiders, falling 7-0.

Meanwhile, after failing to score in their last match, Hodgson Vo-Tech made sure to put some goals up on the board against DuPont on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 4-0 margin over the Tigers. The victory continues a trend for Hodgson Vo-Tech in their matchups with DuPont: they've now won five in a row.

Hodgson Vo-Tech's win bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Newark, their loss dropped their record down to 3-5.

Newark came out on top in a nail-biter against Hodgson Vo-Tech in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 2-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Yellowjackets since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
