Softball Recap: Friday's Loss Ends Key West's Winning Streak

Key West dropped their record down to 12-7 on Friday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They lost 9-0 to the Schoolhouse Prep Wolfpack. The Conchs were red-hot at the plate heading into the match (they scored no less than ten runs in the three games prior), but the Wolfpack's pitcher proved too tough.

Key West saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Vera Rodger, who went 1-for-4 with one triple.

As for Schoolhouse Prep, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-9. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by seven runs or more this season.

On Schoolhouse Prep's side, the result came thanks to Samantha Torres's shutout, as she gave up just four hits and racked up six Ks. Torres has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Angelly Benitez and Valeria Vazquez did most of the damage at the plate: Benitez went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Vazquez went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most hits Benitez has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Sofia Villa, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Key West does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Schoolhouse Prep, they will head out on the road to square off against Mater Bay Academy at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. The Wolfpack's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Rays have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season.
