Basketball Recap: Branden Smith's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Pasquotank County over Currituck County

Pasquotank County lost against Currituck County back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Pasquotank County Panthers received a blow as they fell 71-57 to the Currituck County Knights.

Pasquotank County's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Branden Smith, who went 7 of 16 en route to 18 points along with six rebounds and five assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Kenyatta Parker, who posted 11 points and seven steals.

Currituck County was led to victory by Tristan Peterson and Jamie Dance. Peterson dropped a double-double on 20 points and 13 rebounds, while Dance dropped a double-double on 18 points and 12 rebounds. Peterson has been hot recently, having posted eight or more boards the last three times he's played. Matthew Vaughn was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Pasquotank County's loss dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Currituck County, their win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pasquotank County will head out to challenge First Flight at 7:30 p.m. on January 17th. As for Currituck County, they will venture away from home to square off against Deep Creek at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
