Recap: Wagner Thunderbirds vs. Pieper Warriors
There's no place like home for the Wagner Thunderbirds, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Pieper 48-46. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win Wagner has posted yet this season.
Wagner got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Lance Johnson out in front who scored eight points along with nine rebounds. Trevaun Clark was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Pieper's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was MAYSON THOMAS, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds. THOMAS hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for eight straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of AIDAN MADRIGAL, who scored ten points.
Pieper struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Wagner's victory bumped their record up to 16-9. As for Pieper, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 17-9.
Wagner will face off against Smithson Valley at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Smithson Valley is coming into the matchup on a six-game losing streak. As for Pieper, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Veterans Memorial at 6:30 p.m. Veterans Memorial is coming into the game hot, having won their last 21 games.
