Baseball Recap: Bristol Eastern Comes Up Short

Bristol Eastern had lost four straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped down to 8-7 to make it five. They took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lewis Mills Spartans. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Lancers couldn't push the score so high this time.

As for Lewis Mills, the win was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 11-3. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.4 runs over those games.

For Lewis Mills' part, Lucas Davis tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Davis has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Anthony D'Iorio, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Quintin Nordstrom, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Coming up, Bristol Eastern will face off against Simsbury at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Lewis Mills, they will challenge Farmington at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. The Spartans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the River Hawks have averaged an impressive 9.1 runs per game this season.
