Softball Game Preview: Tohatchi Cougars vs. Laguna Acoma Hawks

The Tohatchi Cougars will venture away from home to face off against the Laguna Acoma Hawks at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

On Tuesday, Tohatchi got the win against Thoreau by a conclusive 15-5. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cougars.

Meanwhile, it was a Battle of the Birds when Laguna Acoma duked it out with Zuni on Monday. The Hawks put the hurt on the Thunderbirds with a sharp 25-1 win. The victory continues a trend for the Hawks in their matchups with the Thunderbirds: they've now won four in a row.

Madelyn Brown was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and four runs. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Tavani Scott was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and four RBI.

Laguna Acoma was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .750. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .516 or higher in seven consecutive matchups.

The win got Tohatchi back to even at 6-6. As for Laguna Acoma, their victory bumped their record up to 7-3.

Tohatchi came out on top in a nail-biter against Laguna Acoma when the teams last played back in April of 2023, sneaking past 9-7. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Hawks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
