Baseball Game Preview: Sacred Heart Prep Gators vs. Woodside Wildcats

The Sacred Heart Prep Gators will take on the Woodside Wildcats at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Sacred Heart Prep's hitters haven't had much luck over their past four matchups, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Last Wednesday, Sacred Heart Prep didn't have quite enough to beat Menlo School and fell 2-1. That's two games in a row now that the Gators have lost by just one run.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Woodside took on Terra Nova on Thursday. The Wildcats fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 5-4. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Joseph Hohl was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Jeremiah Arias Torres and Cruz Torres stepped up to the plate in a big way. Arias Torres scored a run while going 2-for-3, while Torres scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Colby Fernandez, who went 3-for-4 with one RBI.

Woodside's defeat dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Sacred Heart Prep, their loss dropped their record down to 5-10.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Sacred Heart Prep has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Woodside struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
