Recap: Sandy Creek Cougars vs. St. Cecilia Bluehawks
The Sandy Creek Cougars's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their sixth straight loss. They suffered a rough 46-22 defeat at the hands of St. Cecilia. While losing is never fun, Sandy Creek can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 221st, while St. Cecilia is ranked 33rd).
Despite the defeat, Sandy Creek saw an underclassman step up: Emma Fisher scored seven points along with two steals.
It was another big night for Tatum Krikac, who scored 22 points along with four steals for St. Cecilia. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Krikac has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Avery Kissinger, who scored seven points along with nine steals.
Sandy Creek's defeat was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-9. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 28.9 points per game. As for St. Cecilia, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-1.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sandy Creek will take on St. Paul at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully St. Paul focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Thursday. As for St. Cecilia, they will be playing at home against Lincoln Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Lincoln Christian is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
