League recap: Portage tops Blairsville to extend winning streak

Adding to the longest winning streak in Western Pennsylvania [WPAC] this week, Portage beat Blairsville 38-6. The victory was the sixth in a row for the Mustangs.

Meyersdale and Shade played the closest game in the league this week, with Meyersdale eventually emerging with a 21-20 victory. Gavin Berkley ran for 109 yards during the win.

EJ Custer threw for 107 yards and 3 touchdowns. He was 5-10 with 1 interception.

Bruno Rosa provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Conemaugh Township bested Ferndale. He completed 4 passes for 119 yards and 2 touchdowns and also ran for 55 yards. Rosa's key target this week was Jake Formica, who caught 3 passes for 75 yards.

Dustin Blough was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 11 carries, he ran for 165 yards as Windber defeated the Yellow Jackets. Dan Tomlinson also contributed to the rushing game with 138 yards on the ground.

Leading Western Pennsylvania [WPAC] in both passing and receiving yards, the Ramblers' Devon Tomlinson and Matt Barkley have proven to be a lethal combination. 5-10 quarterback Tomlinson has thrown for 1,014 yards this season, while Barkley has 39 catches for 665 yards. Berlin Brothersvalley's Braden Fochtman leads the league in rushing yards with 1,585.

Berkley of the the Red Raiders is just 55 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 145 carries Berkley has accumulated 945 yard this year.

Fans will be treated to a premier battle in the secondary when Windber's Barkley goes up against the Mountaineers' Nick Stockwell.

Next week's game between Matt Grohal's team and Berlin Brothersvalley will feature an aerial matchup as Tomlinson tests his arm against Stockwell's defensive ability.

One of the league's premier quarterbacks will go head-to-head with its top pass rusher when the Ramblers and Doug Paul's team face off next week.

The Mountaineers are in second place, while Windber is in fourth place.

The league will see a high scoring game when Berlin Brothersvalley and the Ramblers face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Mountaineers comes in having scored 358 this season, while Windber has scored 309. Berlin Brothersvalley scored 34 points last week as it topped Westinghouse.

The Ramblers took down Conemaugh Valley 49-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Blough ran for 165 yards in the win.
